Fish Oil Helps Depression

Talk with your friends and family if you are feeling depressed. A positive attitude and exercise may assist in your recovery. Exercise increases your level of endorphins, which are your body's natural anti-depressant. Also, try taking a fish oil supplement, like CVS/pharmacy Fish Oil soft gel tablets, to increase positive chemicals in your brain. The omega-3 fatty acids in Fish Oil may help to raise the levels of serotonin in your brain. Low serotonin levels have been linked to depression and other mood imbalances. Talk to your healthcare provider before starting any medication or supplement. This information is brought to you by The Doctors Prescription for Health, sponsored by CVS/pharmacy. Why do plasma free fatty acids increase in the blood with prolonged exercise?

I am researching the central fatigue hypothesis which suggests that an increase in brain serotonin causes central fatigue. This is increased by a higher ratio of plasma free tryptophan to BCAAs and this is siad to occur because of an increase in FFAs as they compete for binding sites with the tryptophan but there is no explanation as to why FFAs increase due to exercise. Any ideas?

There are also several sections with intimidating titles along the lines of "Enhancing 5-HTP with Catecholamine Precursors." But the book's comprehensiveness makes up for its occasional denseness. Murray includes enlightening sections on nutrition for peak serotonin synthesis, other complementary herbal supplements, and many online and physical sources for obtaining 5-HTP. --Erica Jorgensen --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Library Journal Murray (Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements, Prima, 1996) believes that the symptoms of depression, obesity, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity, premenstrual syndrome, chronic fatigue ...
