Natural Relief for Depression and Anxiety
www.karenrothnutrition.com If you watch TV commercials like most people do, it seems we have an epidemic of depression and anxiety in our country. That may be true; did you know that you can relieve depression and anxiety with making changes to your diet and adding key nutrients? Many of the symptoms of depression can be directly linked to vitamin and mineral deficiencies lacking in our diets. Avoiding depression and anxiety or recovering from an episode is often as easy as changing what you eat and boosting your consumption of key foods that deliver brain-boosting nutrients and help regulate brain chemistry. Research has shown that depressed people often lack a fatty acid known as EPA which is an Omega-3 fatty acids found in Fish and fish oil supplements. Participants in a 2002 study featured in the Archives of General Psychiatry took just a gram of fish oil each day and noticed a 50-percent decrease in symptoms such as anxiety, sleep disorders, feelings of sadness, suicidal thoughts, and low libido. Get omega-3s through walnuts, flaxseed and oily fish like salmon or tuna. You should also avoid caffeine, smoking and foods high in fat and sugar. These stress the body by disrupting blood sugar and deplete all your B Vitamins. Getting B vitamins is so important for stabilizing your mood and handling stress. And let's face it; anxiety is a direct result of stress. So where do you get your B Vitamins, from animal meat. Turkey, chicken and red meat. Another cause of depression ...

Good video; however, I disagree about the recommended amount of omega-3. I strongly support a 1 to 1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. The typical American diet is too high in omega-6 and outweighs omega-3 about 20 to 1!! I aim for 10,000mg omega-3 per day. Your recommendation of reducing overall fat intake is a mistake. The brain is the house that FAT built and is approximately 60 – 70 percent fat. I personally know a neurologist and two naturopathic doctors. I also attend lectures given by NDs.

Equally if not more important in fighting depression is Exercise. Even just a brisk half an hour walk every day. 100 times more efective than anidepressants which have been proven not to work time and time again. Exercise is free, and where theres no profit to be made there are no advertisements., you have to educate yourself and realise the solution to everything is where we ourselves came from: Nature.

Please, help me. I have been with low fat diet for many years due to high cholesterol and triglycerides, which never went down 300. I also have depresion, But now I can’t even think, or reconize sometimes words, could this be due to my very strict low fat diet? my dr. said is due to my depresion medicine, but i am getting worste and worst.
Thanks

I keep seeing info stating that maybe it’s not good to take 5-htp supplements w/ vitamin B6, because although b6 is required to turn 5-htp into seratonin, taking the two at the same time will form seratonin BEFORE entering your brain, and seratonin is too big to cross the blood-brain barrier. So some people suggest taking B6 early in the day, and then taking just 5-htp at night—–the screwed up detail is that most 5-htp supplements seem to include B6 as a bonus ingredient! Thoughts, anyone?

this lady is ABSOLUTLEY right … get rid fo ALL sugar in your diet and watch your anxiety dissapear within days and it will stay away but obvoulsy this ,means strict choices .i.e noi alcohol , sweets cakes biscuits tinned soups , squash , and cordials etc etc its in everything you est so make sure you look at labels and eliminate it if you really want to rid anxiety , it definately works and WILL stay way if you stick to it..good luck and be strong..

Yes! I take fish oild (2) every day, I also make exercise at least 20-30 min 3-4 x week.
About the sugar, what about the fructuose that is in the fruit, I eat a lot of fruit (banans 2-3) apples 1-2.
How the sugar produce anxiety?
