Is it safe to take fish oil tablets in the second trimester once a day?
Hi, I dont have another appointment with my midwife till 2 weeks after my 19 week ultrasound which is the 20th of july, and i have forgotten to ask her if it is safe to take omega3 supplements daily. I do not eat any fish, so i thought it would be beneficial for the brain and eye etc development of my little one. I just need to know if its safe, or should i wait to take them after i see my midwife, your thoughts?

YES and you’ll be doing yourself and the baby a big favour. DHA supplements are totally safe and as you mention, the Omega 3 acids are good for brain development. If you don’t eat fish, this is the best way to get the DHA (Barilla Plus Pasta is another alternative). In studies, babies whose mothers ate fish or DHA supplements during pregnancy had WAY higher IQs at 18 months of age.

I would wait until you have spoken to someone. Maybe you could just call up and ask if it is okay to take them.

I would go down to the chemist & ask the Pharmacist.
He will know if you should or not as i assume you are taking pregnancy supplements & he will ask which ones etc & work out how much if anymore Omega 3 you need. If you were eating fish or salmon twice a week you may find that this is enough but as you said you dont eat it then i suggest you talk to the Pharmacist as your supplements may contain some amounts?
Good luck
