Discover the Health Benefits of Fish Oil
Open any magazine or daily paper and invariably there's a health report about something like the health benefits of fish oil. Are they that many as some studies seem to indicate?
Maybe we should begin by saying that these nutrients are classed as essential, meaning we do need them, to carry out a variety of bodily functions, some right down to cellular level. Also often referred to as the good fats or fatty acids, they fall into a few distinct groups or types.
What's also important is that nutritionally we're simply not getting enough of the beneficial nutrients found in fish oils. Our modern diet includes a lot more processed foods and oily fish like sardines, tuna and mackerel are consumed less frequently.
Maybe that's why we have witnessed a dramatic rise in the use of so many different types of dietary supplements in recent times. We are slowly realizing and being informed through public health messages, that the nutritional quality of what we consume is poor and lacks enough of the right vitamins and minerals our body needs.
That's why a large proportion of us are sufficiently convinced of the health benefits of fish oil. Good for heart, brain, joint, skin and metabolic health. By helping us stay in optimum health they are seen as a good preventative measure to stave of any illnesses further down the road.
Of course, how they compare with regard to other vitamin pills is another wide debate, and depends to a large extent on personal opinion and experience.
